TPI 2007 Night 2/Ibushi vs. Generico

Here we go, finishing up the 2007 Ted Petty Invitational.

1) Nigel McGuinness & BJ Whitmer vs. The Iron Saints for the IWA-Mid South Tag Team titles.
Nigel for some reason gets a tag title shot and he gets to choose a mystery partner. I still don't know why you'd bring in Nigel and have him lose in the first round. Nigel says he can't find a tag partner, so he'll fight on his own. But oh no! He's got a mystery partner... BJ WHITMER! Can BJ's streak of good matches continue? Doubt it. By the way, now he's got short blonde hair. BJ and Nigel are feuding outside the promotion, I guess. BJ wants to put their differences aside and win the titles. Why? Because winning the IWA-MS tag titles will get them bookings. Yeah, Nigel needs to win the presitigous IWA tag titles to get more bookings. Nigel says he's going to trust BJ. One of the Thomasellis (no clue which) now has a fauxhawk. So he passes up his awful long hair for a fauxhawk. I guess it's a step up. With that, Nigel's frosted tips, and BJ's new hair, this is a match full of bad hair. Nigel and Vito starting off. Vito's got the fauxhawk. Ben Jordan said BJ Whitmer's a regular in Pro Wrestling NOAH. Tell me that's a lie. Back and forth with both guys working each other's arms. Sal tags in, but Nigel rolls away. They're just doing pretty standard reversals and matwork here. BJ gets tagged in. BJ refuses a clean break and starts to chop Sal, not wanting to do any matwork like Nigel did. BJ tags Nigel in. Nigel with a clean break but he pays for it when Sal punches him. Butterfly suplex by Vito after Vito tags in. Headscissors, but Nigel handstands and gets out. Now Sal's in. Cobra clutch into the LARIATO~! Nigel really hit that fucker hard. BJ tags in and covers for 2. Chop battle turns to forearms from BJ. Spinebuster botch, and now a normal spinebuster. Nigel's back in. Big ol' uppercut. Nigel throws Sal out, and BJ heels it up with an illegal foot choke. Nigel gets a 2 count, and another, and a third. I want someone to do that spot and get a pin one day. Divorce court leg sweep. BJ's in and the challengers have targeted Sal's arm. Or not. BJ gave him a vertical suplex and now Nigel's uppercutting Sal on the outside. Back in the ring, BJ with a leg lariat. BJ tagged in Nigel, but Nigel didn't have the tag rope. BJ got angry, and Nigel grabbed the tag rope and tagged in. Clothesline and now Nigel with a keylock. Vito breaks that shit up. Randy Orton style chinlock now from BJ. Sal tries to fight out, but BJ knees him in the midsection and then gives him a traditional backbreaker. Nigel in. Backbreaker but Sal got the ropes. BJ back in and he's toying with Sal, slapping him around. Sal with chops, but BJ cuts him off. Back body drop, but Sal puts on the brakes, and gives him the swinging fisherman's suplex. GOLDEN GATE SWING as Ben Jordan says. Wasn't that what Alex Shelley named it? Vito gets the hot tag and rolls up BJ for 2. Not very hot as BJ just gave him a brainbuster and tagged out. Nigel with uppercuts and Tracy Smothers style double chops. Buncha elbows and the running uppercut, followed by a lariat. 2-count. Nigel goes for the Tower of London, but Sal's in. BJ throws Sal out of the ring. Vito's up top, cross body for 2. BJ charged on the outside and missed... some kind of attack on Sal. The Iron Saints go for a move, but BJ shoves Sal off the top. Now Vito takes the kick and lariat combo from Nigel but kicks out at 2. I've written way too much about this match. Forearm battle, lariat misses and Vito backslides Nigel for 2. BJ accidentally kicked Nigel. BJ with a powerbomb on Vito. BJ shoves Nigel, Nigel shoves him back. Nigel gives BJ the lariat. Brent Albright ran out and is beating up Nigel? I guess he's friends with BJ? Were they in the Hangmen's Three together? Iron Saints run off BJ and Albright. No contest ruling. Vito got on the mic, and basically said "hey, Nigel, you throw good clotheslines. You two want a challenge? We're right here." Sal said the same thing. BJ has a microphone. BJ tells Ian the next time he gets Brent and BJ together, to give them a title match.

2) Claudio Castagnoli vs. Mike Quackenbush vs. Chuck Taylor in the TPI final.
Here it is. Claudio beat Nigel, Davey Richards, and Brent Albright. Quack beat Billy Roc, Joey Ryan, and Josh Abercrombie. Chuck beat Jimmy Jacobs, (no longer 2 Cold) Scorpio, and Human Tornado. People love them some Claudio. Quack's coming out to a new song. No Tears for Fears = bullshit. Quack's doing a good job of selling how important this tournament is for him. Chuck's breaking out his blue and green tights. They say "1337" on the back. No clue why. No clue why I said he's wearing blue and green tights. Elimination style in case you didn't know. Both the Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight titles are on the line as well. This should be a fucking great match. Crowd's pretty split between Quack and Claudio. Chuck won the Heavyweight title at last year's TPI. So it's a milestone for him. Ian Rotten on commentary. Claudio and Quack starting off as Chuck watches. Claudio had a wrist lock so Chuck grabbed a rear waist lock. Claudio kicked Chuck in the ass. This is gonna be hard to call with all 3 going at it. Claudio with TWO front facelocks now. Chuck and Quack with arm wringers. Claudio rolls through and kips up. Sends the two into each other and now works over Quack on the mat. Quack sent into the corner, scaring off Chuck. Now Chuck with a arm wringer on Claudio. "Lightning Chuck Taylor" he says. Claudio throws him into the ring where Quack takes over. Claudio rolls up Quack for 2. Small package by Claudio on Chuck for 2. Quack with a headlock on Chuck, Claudio with a headlock on Quack. Claudio comes off the ropes with a crossbody to both men. Claudio sent to the outside by Quack. Now Quack and Chuck in there. Quack roll through into the half crab but Chuck gets the ropes. Claudio and Quack staredown. Ian puts over the Wrestle Factory. Quack with some cool arm drags and such on Claudio. Claudio sent to the outside again. Quack goes for the dive, but Chuck cuts him off with a dropkick. Chuck now with the big tope onto Claudio. Quack with a HUGE twisting dive off the top onto both opponents. Chuck cuts off Quack with a whiplash on the rope. Chuck in a headlock, working over Quack's injured and concussed head. Chuck rolls through with the guillotine now. Claudio's still on the outside. Chuck with a neat arm drag and he rolls through into a modified headscissors. Claudio gets back in and breaks up the hold. Chuck clotheslines Claudio back out. Chuck puts Quack on top, but Quack shoves him off. Claudio's in and hits a big step up enzuigiri. Chuck hits Spike Dudley's Acid Drop and then a big running Yakuza for 2. Sole Food misses and Claudio with an uppercut. Deadlift German suplex for 2. Claudio now gives Chuck the giant swing. Chuck gets the Sole Food and tries the Awful Waffle, but Claudio fights out. Quack is back in and gives Claudio an arm drag. Quack presses Chuck onto Claudio and sweeps Claudio's leg. Cool looking jackknife pin into a double pin but both guys kick out. Claudio with the Bicycle Kick on Chuck. Claudio went for a powerbomb but Quack got him with the hurricanrana for 2. Quack off the top with a dragon rana but Claudio catches him and hits the Ricola Bomb, but QUACK KICKS OUT. Quack with the palm strike and a botched QD3. Now Quack with the QD2 and he eliminates Claudio. Chuck rolls up Quack and grabs the tights for 2. Brainbuster by Chuck but another 2 count. Chuck hits the enzuigiri and then a moonsault off the top, but Quack moves. Quack goes for the QD3, and he hits it perfectly, but Chuck gets out. Now Quack with an STF, except a full nelson instead of a facelock. Chuck gets the ropes. Quack goes for the running palm stirke, but Chuck got the boots up. Awful Waffle, QUACK KICKS OUT. Fans pop HUGE for that. Chuck goes for the corner assisted Awful Waffle. No. Super Awful Waffle, but Quack gets out and tries a sunet flip powerbomb. Chuck hangs on, but Quack gets him out and hits the powerbomb. Now the Chikara Special. CHUCK TAPS. Mike Quackenbush overcomes the concussion and wins the TPI as well as the Heavyweight title. Quack's selling this as a huge victory. "Thank you, Quack" chant. Eddie Kingston comes out with Ian Rotten. King gives him a hug. Bryce does the same. Ian puts him over. Quack thanks the fans and says 2007 was a great year for him. Getting married, the King of Trios success, winning the NWA Jr. title, going to Japan for the first time. Thanks the fans, puts over Ted Petty.

All in all, a pretty good tournament. Not the best, but the right guy won, and there was some pretty good wrestling throughout. What more can you ask for?

Switching gears. My last match before I hit the hay.

3) Kota Ibushi vs. El Generico
Haven't seen this yet, but I heard it was great, and after seeing their interactions in the Rey de Voladores 4-way, I have to see this. This was Kota's fourth match in ROH after wrestling Davey, Claudio, and then tagging with Aries against the Briscoes. God the audio quality in ROH is so awful. There should also be an option to turn off commentary. Code of Honor followed. Lock up and Ibushi with a clean break. Generico wants none of Ibushi's kickboxing stance. Generico tries a takedown but Ibushi gets control. Generico out. Ibushi now with arm control. Clean break in the ropes by Generico. Ibushi wins the test of strength. Now Generico trips up Ibushi and puts him in a headlock. Shoulder tackle from Generico, but a big dropkick from Ibushi. Hard kick from Ibushi. Snapmare and another hard kick. Stike combination from Ibushi, goes for the kick but Generico ducks. Moonsault but Generico gets the knees up. Generico in control with a leg lariat for 2. Generico with the big springboarde into the crossbody for 2, keeping on the attack. Generico with the slam and the split legged moonsault. That's a great move. Forearm exchange. Generico wins, but he runs into an Ibushi hurricanrana. Ibushi with a running kick as he fights back. Generico catches him with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker to stop Ibushi's momentum. Generico goes up top but Ibushi with the carthweel into the big moonsault kick. Ibushi hops over onto the outside turnbuckles with the moonsault. Generico tried to come into the ring by slingshotting himself in but Ibushi gave him a DDT. Rolling solebutt, goes for the kick but Generico moves. Ibushi with a twisting senton. Generico Blue Thunder powerbomb for 2. Running Yakuza but Ibushi gets the boot up. Ibushi runs into a nasty Michinoku Driver. Running Yakuza from Generico but Ibushi hangs onto the foot. Big roundhouse kick from Ibushi, runs into a Generico boot. Generico big boot but Ibushi with the kip up dodge, high kick, German suplex. Ibushi went up top, Generico cut him off and went for the top rope brainbuster. Ibushi shoved him off and went for the moonsault. Generico moved so Ibushi hit the standing moonsault. YAKUZA IN THE CORNER. Generico made it count. Flying splash connects but only 2 for Generico. Brainbuster, but Ibushi gets out and hits the spinning kick. Palm strike cuts off Ibushi. Top rope brainbuster attempt, Ibushi out and tries the sunset flip powerbomb. Generico lands on his feet and hits the basement dropkick. Running Yakuza hits again. Generico with the top rope brainbuster attempt. Ibushi super reverse rana only gets 2. Ibushi up top. Phoenix Splash for the win. I didn't expect the win there for Ibushi after he lost his first 3 matches. Pretty great finishing stretch there. "Please come back" chant. Generico doesn't give Ibushi a post-match handshake at first, but later caves.

That's it, everybody. Tomorrow? We'll see.

Random Stuff from 2008/Best of the Best 4

Taking a break from the TPI. Going to work on disc 2 of my 2008 MOTYC DVD set from DVDVR board.

1) Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Takeshi Morishima for the GHC Heavyweight title.
Morishima has a phenomenal jacket and cowboy hat. Rather ugly fellows here. They can't all be KENTAs, I guess. Lock up and a clean break from Morishima in the ropes. Another lock up, and a clean break once more, this one from Misawa. Lock up, they get to the ropes, but Morishima's forearming. Misawa fights back, and Morishima backs off. Shoulder block spot, but Misawa can't knock down Morishima. Morishima just throws his ass up and knocks down Misawa. Powerbomb on the floor attempt, but Misawa backdrops him. Ouch. Misawa on the apron with a senton to the floor! Morishima back in and tosses Misawa into the corner, follows with a clothesline and rapid forearms. Another big clothesline in the corner, but Misawa fights out of the backdrop driver. Misawa knocks down Morishima with forearms. MISAWA SUICIDE DIVE! Both men back in, and a frog splash form the 2nd rope from Misawa, but it barely gets 2. Out on the cool ramp. Misawa butterflies the arms, but Morishima backdrops him. Misawa charges and Morishima gives him the Bossman Slam on the ramp! Morishima goes up top. FRONT MISSILE DROPKICK! Short distance running ass splash in the corner. Morishima sits up Misawa and then just kind of side rolls into him with a senton like maneuver. This man uses his large ass to perfection. Lariato to a seated Misawa for 2. Hard clothesline, but Misawa DRILLS him with a forearm. More forearms, HUGE forearms. I need to see Misawa and Hero. Butterflies the arms, but Morishima backdrops out and drops down with the ass. MORISHIMA SUICIDE DIVE~!~!~! God that has to be scary to catch him. Big shoulder tackle off the apron to Misawa. Morishima running release powerbomb for 2. Leaping Yakuza to Misawa but 2 again. Lariato, Misawa's up with a big forearm. Lariato, forearm, lariato, forearm. Misawa with a back elbow, but he runs into another lariat. More clotheslines from Morishima, but Misawa with the forearms. BACKDROP DRIVER stops that bullshit. Morishima runs with another LARIATO. Misawa kicks out. Uh oh, both men on the apron. Morishima went for a backdrop driver, but Misawa forearmed out and EMERALD FLOWSION TO THE FLOOR. Misawa's having no count out bullshit here, so he brings Morishima back into the ring. Forearms knock down Morishima. Misawa sets Morishima on the top turnbuckle. Another Emerald Flowsion, hits it. Morishima kicks out. Big forearm knocks down Morishima, but another kick out. Roaring elbow, Morishima kicks out again. Morishima fights back. LARIATO for 2. Another backdrop driver, but Misawa's fighting out. Morishima hits it anyway but Misawa kicks out. Misawa with forearms, roaring elbow but Morishima with another lariato for 2. Morishima with a running lariato, cover but Misawa kicks out. Morishima backdrop driver and that's it. Morishima wins the title. Didn't quite feel like a world title win, but still pretty good stuff.

2) Tyler Black vs. Nigel McGuinness for the ROH World title.
This was from Take No Prisoners, I think it was Tyler's first shot at the title. Handshake to start, but Nigel jumps Tyler and throws him shoulder first into the post. Nigel goes after the arm to start. Nigel does Bryan Danielson's "I have till five" spot. Nigel's totally heeling it up here. Tyler fights back with forearms but an uppercut cuts him off. "Wanna go four-eyes?" he says to a fan. Tyler with a comeback that ends with a vertical suplex. Jumping stomp to the face. Nigel takes control back with a stomp to the injured arm. "I'm the best wrestler in the world." Tyler tries to fight back with chops, but Nigel wrings the arm and slams Tyler down into the mat. Big dropkick from Tyler, followed by chops in the corner. Nigel hammerlocks the injured arm and throws him into the turnbuckles. Nigel slaps around Tyler, who chops him. So Nigel gives him an uppercut. Nigel throws Tyler out of the ring and continues to heel it up and jaw-jack with the fans. Nigel goes outside and throws Tyler into the barricade. Nigel with a running forearm knocks down Tyler. Nigel's got a chair, but Tyler superkicks it into his face. Tyler springboards and does a big dive into the crowd, but Nigel got the chair up and hit Tyler. Not a DQ, I guess. "What an epic fail for Tyler Black." Indeed. Tyler's selling it like death as the fans cheer him on. He finally gets in the ring, Nigel covers him but only gets 2. Nigel with a lariat but he misses and Tyler school boys him for a near fall. Uppercut in the corner, and then a running one. Lariat from Nigel but only a 2 count. Nigel puts Tyler in the London Dungeon, a wacky arm submission, but Tyler gets the ropes. Nigel goes for the Tower of London, but Tyler fights out with clubs to the back of the neck. Tyler with a somersault stunner. Nigel went for the loop-de-loo lariat, but Tyler ducked and knocked Nigel down with a running Yakuza Kick. Both men get up and Nigel with an uppercut, Tyler fights back with a chop. Lariat misses and Tyler with an enzuigiri. Spinning reverse brainbuster for a near fall. Tyler goes for a running clothesline in the corner, but Nigel with the kick to the back/lariat combo for 2. Fans really into Tyler as Nigel goes up top. No clue what he's going for, but Tyler reverses it and gets a superplex. Rolls through into a fireman's carry into a DDT for a really good near fall. Fans chant "that was three." Tyler goes for the twisting 450 splash, but Nigel trips him up and hits the Tower of London. Cover but only 2. Chinbreaker from Tyler, Nigel goes for the loop-de-loo lariat again but Tyler ducks under and hits the Small Package Driver for 2 and the crowd went crazy. Phoenix Splash misses and Nigel puts him back in the London Dungeon. Tyler gets out and counters with a pinning predicament for another great near fall. Nigel sits Tyler on the top rope and goes for the lariat, and he kills him. Tyler again kicks out. "This is awesome" chant. That chant's really annoying now. Tyler spit in the face of Nigel, who responds with another lariat. Tyler kicks out and the fans with their loudest pop yet. Nigel hit the loop-de-loo lariat but TYLER KICKED OUT. Tyler gets up and Nigel gives him another lariat and puts him in the London Dungeon again. Tyler taps. The match got great at the end there.

Alright. Switching things up to CZW's Best of the Best 4. Let's see here. Chris Cash/Homicide/Jack Evans was the first match, Homicide pinned Cash with a lariat. B-Boy/Jimmy Rave/Roderick Strong was the second match, B-Boy pinned Rave with the Shining Wizard. Bobby Quance/Ruckus/Alex Shelley was the third match, Ruckus was counted out after Nate Hatred threw him through a table. Nate Webb/Petey Williams/Sonjay Dutt was the fourth match, Petey pinned Webb after the Canadian Destroyer. Then Chris Hero beat HOTSTUFF HERNANDEZ~! with a roaring elbow I believe. Then in the first quarterfinal, Homicide absolutely murdered young Jack Evans with a lariat and a running Cop Killa.

3) Roderick Strong vs. B-Boy in a BotB quarterfinal round match.
I hate these commentators, John House moreso than the Eric guy. They just sound like complete douchebags, but this is CZW, so take that for what it's worth. B-Boy takes advantage with a shoulder block and a big forearm. Strong dropkicks him and KIPS UP. On the outside, B-Boy chops him and throws him into the guard rail. Back in the ring. CHIN LOCK TIME. B-Boy with a hard kick to the back. Strong with a cool backbreaker and he starts to work over B-Boy, who elbows him. Strong with a Yakuza and a big chop. Strong beats him up on the floor. I didn't know he was trained by Jim Neidhart. Back in the ring now. B-Boy fights back with elbows and chops and kicks. Basement dropkick misses. Strong with another cool looking backbreaker. Strong with a butterfly suplex and a guillotine leg drop. Boston Crab but B-Boy throws him off. Strong keeps control as they go to the outside again. Strong kicks at B-Boy's back, B-Boy fights back but Strong shoves him off into the guard rail. Strong keeps trying the Boston Crab, but B-Boy fights it off. Back into the ring we go. Boston Crab attempt but again B-Boy fights out and hits a Shining Wizard. B-Boy's slow to cover and only gets 2. Northern Lights suplex by B-Boy and then a brainbuster. Facelift basement dropkick in the corner. B-Boy covers but Strong kicks out. This is pretty standard stuff, not great, not awful. B-Boy tried to jump off the ref's back, but Strong caught him with the fireman's carry into the double knees and the running Yakuza for 2. Strong finally gets the Boston Crab in. B-Boy crawls towards the ropes. Basically, he slapped the mat once each time he tried getting to the ropes, so the ref called for the submission. B-Boy was pissed. Fans chant "bullshit" afterwards.

4) Bobby Quance vs. Alex Shelley in a BotB quarterfinal round match.
Hopefully this one's better than the 3-way they had with Ruckus. But I'll blame Ruckus and his retarded looking spots for that. Shelley looks like a total geek here with his gym shorts. They do some basic mat work and reversals. Cross armbreaker, but Shelley gets the ropes. Quance now with a kimura, but Shelley gets out. Quance back with arm control. Quance kicking at Shelley's arm and then knees him. Shelley hot shots him and then hits an enzuigiri for 2. Shelley with a neckbreaker and then a... submission. No clue what to call it. Quance fights back with chops, but Shelley's having none of that. Quance with a cool looking pinning predicament, Shelley kicks out and clotheslines Quance down. Now almost a cravate from Shelley, but Quance fights out. Shelley now with a Japanese stranglehold into the lungblower. THAT'S INDY WRESTLING. Backdrop suplex and a short chop exchange. Shelley's back in control, but Quance with an Ace Crusher. Quance gets a Northern Lights suplex, rolls through, another Northern Lights, into the cross armbreaker. Shelley again gets the ropes. Superkick by Shelley. Jumping DDT from Shelley and Quance kicks out at 2. Quance out of the corner with a hurricanrana. Cross armbreaker but Shelley holds on with a pin for 2. Now a... scoop backdrop driver from Shelley for 2 3/4. Never seen that before. Shelley puts Quance on the top turnbuckle. Quance fights out and goes for the Shooting Star Press, but Shelley moves. Quance lands on his feet and the tornado kick misses. Quance back with the cross armbreaker and Shelley taps. Fun little match there.

ECW's almost on, so I'm done for the night. I'll be back tomorrow with the final two matches in the 2007 TPI.

TPI 2007 [Night 2]

I think I'll just title the blogs with whatever I'm watching. I'm not witty enough to think of... well... witty titles.

Let's see. Thus far, it's been a pretty damn good show. I've seen '04 & '06 and I really liked them both, 2006 wasn't as star studded as 2004, but I liked it more. Claudio/Quack and Low Ki/Davey Richards in particular were sooooo awesome. Here in 2007, there's some complete goons like Dysfunction and Devon Moore, but there's some great names like Brent Albright, Nigel McGuinness, and Scorpio (no longer 2 Cold :(). Night one was pretty standard, I really liked the Hero/Scorpio match. Jimmy Jacobs vs. Chuck Taylor was a good main event, but seeing Chuck selling little Jimmy Jacobs' offense just turned me off. I saw BJ Whitmer's best match against Davey Richards, thanks entirely to Davey, who was awesome in both his matches (that and his 2nd round match with Claudio). Claudio/Nigel was also a really good match, so they had a really strong finish to night 1.

Night 2 has seen Josh Abercrombie advance by beating Devon Moore. I like Josh. He's got wacky tights, an AWESOME hat, and has some cool stuff I haven't seen before (Sidewalk Slam Driver, the lungblower variation he calls the Taliban Backpack). Brent Albright beat Joker in a match I thought would just be strikes and suplexes. It was fine, Joker and the rest of Blackout sans Eddie Kingston are pretty bad the more I see them. Tornado beat Nate Webb in a forgettable match. Hero on commentary's always great. Quack had his nasty botched dive against Joey Ryan, but he finished the match and the fans were really into him. Davey and Claudio had a great match. Davey was on point with his kick, even doing some rana's and lucha stuff which was awesome. Claudio threw his uppercuts, did some good mat work, pretty standard stuff and he won with the Ricola Bomb. Chuck and Scorpio had a pretty fun match. Chuck was being wacky as usual, Scorpio didn't do as well as he did against Hero, but it was pretty fun for what it was. Chuck won with the Awful Waffle out of the corner to advance to the semifinals. Ian Rotten came out and said Quack couldn't continue due to his head injury. So here we go!

1) Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brent Albright in a semifinal match.
Claudio came out with a HYDRA'S GYM shirt. Awesome. Brent has a cool jacket. By the way, the announer's name is STEVE STEVE. Claudio's the definite babyface here. Stalemate early, neither men getting the advantage. Brent Albright with a headlock, Claudio's having trouble getting out. God, I hope this isn't like the Danielson/Claudio match from PWG where they did a headlock for like 10 minutes. Albright goes to a front facelock, and Claudio still can't get out. Back to the headlock. Still with the headlock. Back to the front facelock. Claudio finally gets the ropes, but Albright back with the headlock. If this is what their ROH matches are like, I can see why people hate them. Front facelock, and Claudio finally hot shots him to break the hold. Not the pop they were expecting, probably. Claudio with the giant swing for 11 revolutions. 10 MINUTES HAVE GONE BY. About 9 were the headlock. Albright with a victory roll for 2. Albright went for the half nelson suplex, but Claudio hits the Alpamare Waterslide. Ricola Bomb attempt, Albright with an Exploder for 2. Forearm/Uppercut battle, Albright gets the Crowbar, but Claudio gets the ropes. Albright looking for a superplex, but Claudio shoves him off and goes for the flying uppercut. Albright catches him with the Crowbar (Fujiwara armbar), but Claudio gets out. Albright switches to the cross armbreaker, and Claudio gets the ropes. Albright went for the Crowbar again but Claudio got out and hit the Bicycle Kick. Ricola Bomb attempt, but Albright slips out and gets the half nelson suplex for a really good near fall. Albright misses a cross body and Claudio hits the Ricola Bomb for the pin. Really picked up at the end, good stuff. Claudio's going to the finals!

The Human Tornado vs. Chuck Taylor in a semifinal match.
Tornado should be booked in more places. I think this was his IWA debut, and the people love him after two matches. I might be wrong about the debut. I haven't heard Chuck use "Hey Sandy" in a long time, so this has been a great weekend for his music. As was the case with his first two matches, Chuck's defending the IWA World (lol) title throughout. Tornado steals the belt and the crowd chants "new fuckin' champ." Chuck goes over to the commentary table and gets the mic. "God forbid he not live up to the stereotype." Sadly, Tornado isn't being billed from "Niggakeeprunnin, Mississippi." :( Bryce says Tornado is a "Wrestling Society X superstar." Awesome. Chuck tries one of his way too long wacky chants. Chuck's being Chuck. He makes fun of a young child, who responds with "I'm Chuck Taylor, I scream like a girl when I get chopped." Chuck got served. Tornado walks the tight rope, Chuck crotches him, but Tornado does the no-sell. Pimp slap misses, and Chuck with the overhead belly to belly and the nip up. BACK RAKE AND CHEST RAKES. Backdrop suplex and then Chuck with the invisible grenade spot. "Double ultra super mega killing grenade!" The fans beg for him not to throw it, he does and hits the elbow drop. I just realized I have commentary off. Tornado with the splits low blow and a jackknife pin for 2. Tornado went for a stinger splash but Chuck got the boots up and hit a Yakuza Kick for 2. Tornado did a great spot where Chuck's head was hung over the middle rope, and Tornado slingshots (slingshoots?) over and double stomps Chuck. Tornado with an enzuigiri and Tornado DDT for a near fall. Chuck hits a catatonic into a flatliner, and puts on a wacky submission but Tornado gets the ropes. Sole Food misses, Tonrado goes for the DND, but Chuck gets out and then eats a spinning kick. Tornado goes up top, maybe the Cancun Tornado, but Chuck cuts him off. Pimp slap misses, Chuck goes for a superplex, but Tonrado tries a sunet flip powerbomb. Chuck hangs on and kicks him off. Tornado crotches him and goes for the super DND. Chuck elbows off and misses the moonsault. Chuck with a low blow, Tornado no sells and hits the pimp slap. DND connects, but Chuck gets the ropes. Fans thought it was over. Another DND, but Chuck gets out of it and eventually gets the Awful Waffle for the 3. Awful Waffle remains the best name for a move ever. Really good stuff. Afterwards, Chuck asks a kid if he wants to die. The kid agrees to meet Chuck in the parking lot, and Chuck says "I'll be the guy with a knife, stabbing your face."

Josh Abercrombie vs. Mike Quackenbush in a semifinal match.
Abercrombie comes out to accept Quack's forfeit, but Quack's music hits and he comes out to wrestle. Fans are soooo behind him. Quack's been defending his IWA Light Heavyweight title througout the tournament. Hand shake to start. Joey Ryan on commentary! Some good reversals and technical stuff to start. Abercrombie goes after Quack's injured head, the fans don't like it. Abercrombie with a one-armed swinging neckbreaker for 2. Quack takes out Abercrombie's knee and gets him in a modified Stretch Muffler, but Abercrombie gets the ropes. Abercrombie goes back to the head with elbows. Piledriver, but Quack kicks him in the face to get out. Big spinebuster and Quack with a modified ankle lock, but Abercrombie once more gets to the ropes. Abercrombie back to the head. Abercrombie goes for the Taliban Backpack, but Quack hits the palm strike. Quack with another dive, this one pays off. Quack with the clothesline in the corner, bulldog into the knee. Goes for the running palm strike, but Abercrombie cuts him off and gets a near fall with the piledriver. Quack with the Black Tornado Slam into the crucifix pin for 2. Abercrombie hits the Taliban Backpack but Quack kicks out. Abercrombie goes to a half chickenwing rear chinlock like submission, whatever it is it won him his first two matches. Quack gets his arm up on the 3rd try, and he counters into a pin for two, but Abercrombie counters that for 2. Modified slam by Quack, and he gets Abercrombie in a modified ankle lock once more. Abercrombie taps and Quack's giong to the finals! The crowd and emotion made this one really good stuff. Quack/Claudio/Chuck in finals. Ian came out and thanked Quack. Because Quack decided to wrestle when the NWA told him not to, that severed ties between the NWA and IWA. Huh? Handshake afterwards between Quack and Abercrombie. Fans chant "one more win."

Eddie Kingston vs. Chris Hero in a Last Man Standing match.
Last match before I take a break. Kingston jumps Hero before Hero can make an entrance. Basically, these two still hate each other. And Ian made the match last night after they had a brawl. Brawling in the crowd to start. Hero MURDERS King with Yakuzas right to the face as King was sitting down against the wall. They continue to hit each other hard. King suplexes Hero onto a table, but it doesn't break. Headbutts on the floor by both men. King starts to choke Hero, but Hero shoves him off into the guard rails. Hero separates a part of the guard rail and hits King with it. HE JUST THREW THE GUARD RAIL AT HIM. Hero slapping King, but King fights back with chops. King's digging his eyes into Hero's eye sockets and mouth, but Hero gives him a Yakuza, and then a running one. King with machine gun chops and finally the two enter the ring. Headbutt cuts off King's attack. Hero with a few more Yakuzas. Hero goes outside and gets a steel chair. He throws it in and hits King in the head. He throws a few more in. Hero with a chair cuts off King, and then he stomps the chair on King's head. Hero puts a chair on King's stomach, then grabs one and does a senton with it onto the chair and King. Hero puts King in a Boston Crab and then puts a chair underneath, part of the chair right on King's neck, and he sits down with it. King's got a busted nose. Some retard yells "fight, fight, fight, fight, fight, fight." King takes down Hero and punches him, and then gets him in a guilltoine choke but Hero gets out with kidney shots. Saito suplex by Hero, but King gets up at 8. Hero with a powerbomb. King up at 8 once more. Hero stomps on King's hand repeatedly. King up at 5. King tries to chop and slap with the hand, but it hurts too much. Hero stomps on the same hand a few more times. Hero with chops, but King fires back and hits an overhead capture suplex. LARIATOOOOOO~! Hero's up at 9. King calls for the finish. Saito suplex attempt, but Hero gets out with an elbow and a cravate facebreaker over the knees. Hero throws chairs at King's head, and looks for the standard chair shot, but instead puts King in the chair and gives him a flipping maneuver of some sort that ends with the chair hitting the mat and King taking the shot to the neck. King up at 7. Hero brings the guard rail piece into the ring. He rams it in King's gut twice. Hero pushes the guard rail into King, but King manages to drive Hero back into the opposite corner. Hero throws the guard rail at King and then hits another Yakuza. Hero off the top with a DOUBLE STOMP. Kingston gets up at 8. Hero sets the guard rail in the corner. YAKUZA AGAIN. Big slap, but King fights back. Trading slaps now, Hero going for a powerbomb onto the guard rail. Backfist misses, but he hits it on the second try. Backdrop driver, Hero's back up. King with another, Hero's up again. King tells him he's gonna die, and gives him a third backdrop driver, this time onto the guard rail. Hero's down and out for the 10 count, King wins it. Brutal stuff, great match.

That's it for now. I've got two matches left, so I'll finish those later tonight.

3...2...One Man Army on a solo mission

But I'm still starrin', still still starvin', still marchin'. No clue why I decided to start this prowreslove blog with lyrics to a OneBeLo rap song, but whatever. I've blogged before, and I run out of stuff to talk about after a few weeks, but one thing I always wanna talk about is pro wrestling. Love it. So I'm just going to watch and blog about it here. Sounds cool, huh? Yeah.

Last night I got through the first half of King of Trios night 2, Chikara's premiere tournament. So let's just start from there, k?

1) Austin Aries vs. Player Dos vs. Matt Jackson vs. Fire Ant in a Rey de Voladores qualifier.
Rey de Voladores is Spanish for "king of the flippy little boys" according to Chuck Taylor, who won the inaugrual mini-tournament back in 2007. 2008's tournament wasn't too bad, sans the final which saw the shitty Incognito beat Helios with a submission hold. My first Chikara show was the day before, which featured two four-way qualifiers, one with "THE IMMACULATE" TJ Cannon, who is a fantastic indy geek who wears pink and black and does shooting star double stomps. Anyway, they had Rey de Voladores over King of Trios weekend, and the winner of this match meets the winner of the next match. Austin Aries did a complete 180, from being super babyface on night 1 to complete heel in this match. Player Dos has new gear, and Matt Jackson coming out to MMMBop is really great. Fire Ant has himself a shirt. There was a good spot where Aries was going to do his wacky elbow drop. So he motioned to one side of the arena, and the fans booed. The other side cheered. He kept going back and forth and it was just funny. I guess you have to see it. Of course he ends up missing the elbow. Matt Jackson gets elimianted after the Beach Break from Fire Ant, who gets eliminated by a Player Dos frog splash after he misses a senton on Aries. Dos wins the match with a top rope flipping snapmare maneuver. It was fine, this was the first time seeing Aries' new heel shtick, and I'm not sure what the hell it is, but I like it.

2) F.I.S.T. vs. The F1rst Family in a KoT quarterfinal match.
Eh. This match didn't do a whole lot for me. There was a good spot where Arik Cannon and Chuck Taylor did the leg sweep into a 1-count lucha spot, and Bryce got involved. And Chuck did a stupid dive onto the floor with nobody catching him. I guess it's King of Trios, which is like Chikara's Wrestlemania, but still. Really dumb. Chuck and Icarus did a cool looking Yakuza Kick/Lungblower combination, and in the end, one of the NOrth Star Express guys took a Sole Food into a Pedigree and FIST advanced. Nothing special, but a solid trios match.

3) The Submission Squad vs. Davey Vega & Gary the Barn Owl in an LWA showcase match.
I have no clue how these men ended up on the show. Either they paid Quack a handsome amount of money, or they had his family ransom. This wasn't the worst match I've seen, but Jesus. It was 4 geeks from some promotion nobody cares about just doing moves. I just don't have words for this match. Just bad stuff, nobody cared, and thank God it was short. The result isn't important, but one of the SS guys pinned another guy with a move. Skip this shit.

4) The Osirian Portal vs. The Future is Now in a KoT quarterfinal match.
Lince Dorado found a new way to annoy me. I don't care if people think it's "cool to hate Lince" because this guy just finds new ways to make me want to boo him. I don't know if he's been doing it forever, but nowadays, Rey Jr. uses the middle rope when he's running the ropes. It looks dumb when he does it, but he's like 5'5". Lince's probably 5'10" or so, so it looks even dumber when he does it. The Portal were loved here, and the Future is Now... not so much. Escorpion looked bad here, and outside of Jimmy Olsen, Ophidian, Amasis, and a fun little dance spot to start the match, I didn't like this match a whole lot. Helios pinned Ophidian with a jumping DVD for the pin. Crowd booed this HUGE.

5) Jigsaw vs. El Generico vs. Nick Jackson vs. Kota Ibushi in a Rey de Voladores qualifier.
Sweet Jesus. If you're ever down on wrestling and you need something to make you love it once more, WATCH THIS MATCH. Started off pretty fun, but it got fucking incredible. Jigsaw did a double stomp onto Nick Jackson, and he used that as a launching pad for a hurricanrana to Generico. Nick hit a slingshot X-Factor, and then just went outside and did a moonsault. Generico went up top and Ibushi did a cartwheel into a HUGE pele kick. Generico did the moonsault over the ropes plancha onto Nick Jackson and then just started running and dove THROUGH THE TURNBUCKLES and gave Jig a Tornado DDT. He went in and gave Ibushi the Yakuza Kick and the half & half suplex for a near fall. Crowd was going nuts, and so was I. Then Generico went for a Yakuza in the middle of the ring but Ibushi avoided it and nipped up and gave Generico a roundhouse kick and a German. Unbelievable. Generico went for the Brainbuster on the turnbuckle, but Ibushi got out and pinned Generico after a super reverse frankensteiner. Jigsaw quickly pinned Nick Jackson with a Jig 'n' Tonic and then Ibushi pinned Jig after a twisting 450 splash. Believe the hype, folks. This was fucking awesome.

That's all I got for now. I'll probably watch more of the 2007 TPI tonight, which I've actually really enjoyed for the most part thus far. I've also got ROH, two CZW Best of the Bests, a Jersey All Pro show, and much more. So stick around!
